It's a wonderful spot to enjoy the natural beauty of the lake!

James H. McBride Arboretum, located on the BGSU Firelands Campus in Huron, Ohio, is a partnership between Erie Metroparks and Bowling Green State University and is one of the most relaxing places in Huron! Dr. James H. McBride, the first Dean of Firelands College, envisioned this beautiful arboretum as early as the late 1960s. Today, the arboretum features over 200 species of native flowers, trees and shrubs, Parker Lake with surrounding asphalt walking paths, beautifully landscaped gardens and more. The arboretum is open sunrise to sunset all year.

Old Woman Creek State Nature Preserve is a remarkable site protected as both a State Nature Preserve and a National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR). It stands as one of Ohio's best remaining examples of a natural estuary, where freshwater from the land meets and mixes with the water of Lake Erie. The preserve features diverse habitats, including marshlands, open water, a barrier sand beach, upland forests and old crop fields. Birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects thrive here, drawn by the abundant food and shelter. While swimming and fishing are not allowed, visitors can explore nearly three miles of hiking trails through oak-hickory forests, observe the estuary from an observation deck and appreciate the dynamic barrier beach that separates it from Lake Erie.
